“There’s a table over by the training grounds that’s open. Want to join me and my friends?” Percy asked as you searched around for an open table to sit down and eat. “I promise I won’t tell them anything about you,” he said, an almost pleading look in his eyes.

You smiled and roiled your eyes at him. “Fine,” you said, giving in. You walked over in the direction of the table and sat down on the edge with Percy sitting next to you. After a minute or two, Grover and Annabeth came over and sat across from you and Percy.

“Hey, Percy,” Annabeth greeted, not making eye contact with you.

“What up, man?” Grover said, holding up his hand, waiting for a high-five. Percy high-fived him and greeted him and Annabeth.

“Looks like you finally got the fish out of the water,” Grover joked, giving you a welcoming slap on the back before sitting next to Annabeth. “I’m Grover,” he said. “And this is Annabeth.” He gestured towards her, and she looked up from her plate to smile and say hello.

“It’s nice to meet you. I’m (Y/N),” you introduced.

“Ahh, so the mystery girl has a name,” Grover joked.

“I always have. No one has ever asked,” you said, staring at the hamburger that lay on your plate.

“Well, I happen to think it’s a lovely name,” he said and smiled at you.

“Thank you,” you replied, thankful that he wasn’t pressing for information either.

“So what are your powers?” Annabeth asked, looking directly at you.

“Uhh…”  You didn’t know what to say. You looked at Percy, and he looked back at you, not knowing what to say either.

At that moment, Chiron called for attention, and everyone turned to face him. You were thankful for the distraction.

“As you all know, beyond those gates,” he said, pointing towards the entrance, “you are no longer safe. There are creatures out there that would do almost anything to get their hands on you. But you have all come a long way. You are all more skilled and more powerful than you were when you first came here. That is why tomorrow I am letting you all out into the open world.” A wave of gasps and cheers spread through the crowd. “You will have to use all of your training and everything you have learned to make it out there. You may leave at 8:00 tomorrow morning and you must return by 9:00 tomorrow evening. If any of you are late, I will have to put you on probation. All of your time will be used for training, and nothing else. Yes, some of you may be killed.” More gasps. “I have faith, though, that all you of will be smart and use all of the knowledge you have gained to stay alive. No powers are to be used unless it is a life-or-death situation. Is all of this understood?” A small chorus of “Yes’s” and nods spread through the crowd. Everyone sitting at your table nodded their heads as well. “Good. Glad everything is understood.” He turned his attention over to your table. “(Y/N) and Percy, you are the only ones I am not letting leave tomorrow. You are very powerful, but you are also very important. I can’t take the risk of losing either of you,” he said.

‘It’s only because he doesn’t trust me’ you thought. Instead of saying this, however, you and Percy both nodded your heads.

“Good. Remember, no one is to arrive back here later than 9:00 tomorrow. You may carry on,” Chiron said and with that that noise of voices and clatter of utensils began again.

“This is so not fair,” Percy said, finally speaking up. “We just defeated Hades and returned Zeus’s lightning bolt and this is the reward I get?”

“He’s only doing it to protect us, Percy” you heard yourself say. “It’s nothing personal. At least you won’t be alone,” you offered.

He sighed. “Yeah, I guess you’re right,” he said, looking at you and smiling.

“You never answered my question,” Annabeth brought up.

‘Crap.’ “I’m the daughter of Apollo,” you said, hoping you sounded surer than you felt. It wasn’t a lie though. You had his powers so that kind of made you his daughter, right?

“Cool. Does that mean you can heat up anything or use your voice like a siren?” Grover asked.

“Yeah,” you answered.

“How about you sing something for us?” he asked you. All eyes turned on you.

“I really don’t feel like it,” you said, turning your attention back to your untouched hamburger.

“Why not?” Grover pressed. ‘Maybe I had him all wrong,’ you thought. ‘Maybe he does press for answers.’

“She said she doesn’t feel like it so drop it,” Percy said, defending you.

“So why are you so important?” Annabeth asked.

“Apollo only had one child, me. I’m the only demigod with his types of powers so Chiron has always felt like I needed a little more protection than usual,” you explained. It wasn’t all a lie, though.

“I guess that that makes sense,” she said. “How come no one ever sees you training with anyone?”

“I’m usually studying, not fighting. Chiron started to train me for battling the moment I sent foot in camp. After a couple weeks, I was a skilled fighter. But I knew that fighting wasn’t the only thing that helped you win a battle. You also had to know your opponent: their strengths, their weaknesses, everything you can about them. So I’ve been studying the strengths and weaknesses of all the gods.”

“So what’s Athena’s weakness?” she asked, curiosity running through her veins.

“She’s too sure of herself. She believes that because she is the Goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategies that she can’t lose. Kind of like your case the first time you fought Percy,” you said.

“I guess that makes sense,” Grover chimed in.

“Well, I need to get back to training. It was nice meeting you, (Y/N),” Annabeth said, standing up.

“Nice to meet you, too,” you replied.

“Guess it’s just us three now,” Grover said.

“Guess so.”

“Grover!” a few voices called out. It was the daughters of Aphrodite.

“Well, I think I should leave you two here to get to know each other a little better. It was nice meeting you,” he said before getting up and running to where the girls sat.

You couldn’t help but laugh. ‘Boys,’ you thought.

“Do you want to take a walk?” Percy asked all of a sudden.

“Sure,” you said, getting up and throwing away your plate.
